Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Data Center Technician to join our client's data center installation team. This role involves installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining low voltage systems and networking infrastructure within a fast-paced and high-security data center environment. The ideal candidate has experience working with low voltage cabling, fiber optics, and network equipment installation, adhering to industry standards and safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
Install, terminate, and test low voltage cabling, including Cat5e/6/6A, fiber optic, and coaxial cables, in data center environments.
Install and mount networking equipment such as routers, switches, patch panels, and firewalls in server racks.
Perform cable management, labeling, and patching, ensuring all work adheres to established standards and best practices.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues with low voltage cabling and networking equipment, performing tests and inspections to ensure optimal performance.
Collaborate with data center engineers, electricians, and other team members to coordinate installations and upgrades.
Read and interpret technical blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
Maintain high standards of safety and security, following all data center protocols and guidelines.
Keep accurate records of installations, updates, and repairs performed.
Stay up-to-date with industry trends and technologies relevant to low voltage systems and networking hardware.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent; technical certifications are a plus (e.g., BICSI, CompTIA Network+).
Experience installing and maintaining low voltage cabling and networking equipment, preferably in a data center environment.
Proficiency with cable testing tools and network equipment.
Strong understanding of industry standards such as ANSI/TIA/EIA and BICSI.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and wiring diagrams.
Familiarity with power distribution units (PDUs) and server rack configurations.
Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in physically demanding environments, including confined spaces and high places.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with hyper-scale data centers.
Experience with structured cabling systems.
